Tilly’s is the creation of local restaurateur Tilly James, whose time in Cape Town and Portugal shaped the venue’s easygoing, welcoming ethos. The wine list is firmly rooted in Portugal but features selections from Lebanon, Cyprus, Spain, South Africa and English producers in the Cotswolds, focusing on small, traditional, family-run wineries. Bottles start at £32, with a concise collection that leans classic, aiming for everyday approachability over formality.

The food offering is equally compact and European-minded, with snacks like pan con tomate, goat’s curd and burnt leeks on sourdough, smoked mackerel pâté with dill and cucumber, and classic gildas. For dessert, chocolate mousse with olive oil and sea salt speaks to Mediterranean influence. Occupying a former pottery studio, Tilly’s preserves high ceilings and industrial bones, softened by vintage furnishings and local art. The space also serves as a coffee shop by day, underlining its community orientation and relaxed charm.
