Ten new Barcelona restaurants, from Gràcia to the Raval

Localtime arrives in Barcelona with a Gràcia bistro, a nine-seat Nikkei counter and Artur Martínez’s new tavern—part of a broader first edit of sixty addresses.

These restaurants did not all open this Sunday. They have been settling into Gràcia, El Born, the Eixample and the Raval since January. What is new is Barcelona’s place in the magazine: ten addresses for this first letter, followed by a broader edit that brings the index to sixty—many of them already woven into the way the city eats.

Begin in Gràcia. Piropo Bistro opened on 8 January at Carrer del Topazi 18, a sibling to Santa Magdalena from Quim and Paula Marqués: Catalan cooking, a generous wine list and vinyl on a side street that still rewards those who head out on foot for dinner. It opens in the evenings; @piropobistro is the most reliable source for current hours. Down the hill in El Born, Bornès arrived at Carrer de la Carassa 2–4 on 22 January. Part restaurant, part bodega and part cocktail bar, it occupies a handsome stone-and-mosaic interior—open from 18:00 on weekdays and from 13:00 until 01:00 at weekends. Book at bornesrestaurant.com.

The Eixample contributes four. Barra /M, Omar Malpartida’s nine-seat Nikkei omakase at Carrer de Viladomat 249, marries Japanese technique with a distinctly Peruvian spirit; reservations are essential. Trü is Artur Martínez’s relaxed Catalan tavern at Carrer de Còrsega 232, a more informal counterpart to Michelin-starred Aürt. It opens Tuesday to Saturday from 19:30 to 22:00, with a brief lunch service on Friday and Saturday from 13:30 to 14:30; call +34 932 37 69 98. Superauto, which opened on 5 March at Carrer del Rosselló 182, brings together Ronit Stern and Rafael Campos’s free-form cooking and natural wines—open in the evenings, for Friday lunch and throughout the weekend. Ikenoan, at Avinguda Diagonal 353, is Ikenocha’s Japanese teahouse: matcha first, sweets second.

In Sant Gervasi, Barra Oso brings chef Òscar Álvarez, formerly of Mesa Lobo, to Carrer de Muntaner 248: candlelight, vinyl, lunch and dinner. Call 934 097 127 or reserve at barraoso.com. The Raval and the Gòtic complete the map. Arraval, inside Hotel Casa Teva at Carrer del Marquès de Barberà 22, serves Catalan market cooking shaped by fire and produce from La Boqueria, Tuesday to Friday from 19:00 to midnight. Tacos Guzmán is a Tijuana-style counter at Carrer de Sant Pau 27, with flour tortillas made out on the street. Facing La Boqueria from Carrer de la Boqueria 23, Finorri offers the grill, rice from Pals and a serious wine list, every day of the week.

Ten names make a convincing first map. Explore it neighbourhood by neighbourhood rather than attempting to reserve everything at once. The nine-seat counter, the Còrsega tavern, the Gràcia bistro and the cocktail bar in El Born are the four we would seek out first; the remainder of this week’s sixty additions appear in the index below. If you are crossing the city this weekend, the final nights of Festa Major de Sants are free, while Hermanos Gutiérrez take the stage at the Liceu on Sunday at 20:30. Full times and ticket details are in this weekend’s guide.
