Exotica opened in mid-July 2026 at Leoforos Vasilissis Amalias 405, on the Zappeion Garden edge where the National Garden meets the avenue, an all-day park bar from Giorgos Gigis and Kostas Katsanos that wants Athenians back under the palms instead of leaving the lawns to the tourist hour.

The little-known fact is the name: it comes from Queen Amalia’s mid-nineteenth-century exotic gardens, which planted palms and rare animals in the city centre. Half the chairs are the old Zappeion garden seats, half are open-air-cinema yellows and greens, on sage metal tables by NineDesign, with a circular indoor bar for winter and a takeaway window on the Amalias side for coffee on the run. Chef Alexandros Rovakis cooks between tavern and gastronomy: eggs and pancakes until early afternoon, then spaghetti and meatballs, beef tartare with cheddar and pickles, a fried mix of zucchini, calamari, shrimp, broccoli and jalapeño, smoked octopus souvlaki.
